THE WINERY

When we opened The Winery in central Queenstown in May 2005 we were one of the world's first and largest wine tasting experiences. With a focus on bringing the best of New Zealand wine to one location, The Winery's reputation grew and in 2019 we were recognised by TripAdvisor in the World's Top 10 wine experiences People's Choice Awards.

In February 2020 The Winery opened a second store in Arrowtown, taking the experience to the next level with more whisky and gin tastings, our famous cheeseboards with a new tapas menu and a decor designed for the relaxation and comfort of our customers. Mudbrick Waiheke Island Rosé 2026 is a bright pink rosé from Waiheke Island vineyards. It has ripe strawberry, watermelon and citrus, with crisp acidity and a touch of sweetness on the finish. It's a fresh, easy-drinking wine that suits a good weekend and light food.

Pour a glass and the fruit arrives first: ripe strawberry and watermelon, lifted by citrus, with a hint of candy floss. The colour is a bright, clear pink.

The palate is crisp, and the fresh berry fruit carries all the way to the finish, where a subtle sweetness rounds things off. It suits anyone who likes a rosé with plenty of fruit and freshness, and it is an easy bottle to open for a mixed group.

Mudbrick is a Waiheke Island vineyard established in 1992, and this rosé comes from the island itself.

What it tastes like

This wine has aromas of ripe strawberries, watermelon and citrus, with a sweet hint of candy floss. On the palate, crisp acidity keeps the berry fruit fresh, and the bright summer fruit character lingers on the finish with a subtle sweetness.

  • Vietnamese rice paper rolls
  • Soft goat's cheese on crackers
  • Grilled chicken with herbs
  • Salt and vinegar chips, because the crisp acidity cuts through the salt

Who makes it

Robyn and Nick Jones established Mudbrick in 1992 and added the Shepherds Point site in 1998. Mudbrick's vines grow across four Waiheke Island sites: Mudbrick, Hawke's Crest at the western end, Shepherds Point, and Sea View Road, where Mudbrick's winery is based in Onetangi.

Hand harvesting is the norm for all of Mudbrick's fruit. In the vineyard each vine is pruned according to how it performs, shoots are tucked by hand, and leaves are removed by hand around the fruit.

When to drink it

Mudbrick gives this rosé a drinking window of 2026 to 2029.
