The Louis Jadot Bourgogne Couvent des Jacobins Blanc 2024 is a 100% Chardonnay from Burgundy, France. It has green apple, citrus and pear flavours with a hint of vanilla from oak, and a fresh, round finish. It is an easy way into white Burgundy, and a good all-rounder with seafood, chicken and soft cheeses.
A glass of this shows green apple and citrus first, then peach and pear, with white flowers and a little vanilla from the oak. Part of the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks for freshness and fruit, and part in oak barrels for structure and roundness, so it sits between crisp and creamy.
It suits anyone who wants white Burgundy without the fuss. It makes a good weekend wine, with a seafood platter or a roast chicken, and a friendly place to start if Burgundy Chardonnay is new to you.
Louis Jadot has been making Burgundy since 1859, and its cellars in Beaune sit inside the Couvent des Jacobins, a convent built in 1477. The convent gives this wine its name.
What it tastes like
This wine has a bright yellow colour with green highlights. The aromas on the nose are fruity, with white fruits and citrus, a little spice and a touch of vanilla from the oak.
The palate opens fresh and lively, then turns smooth and round. Peach, pear and grapefruit sit alongside the green apple, and the finish is fresh with a mineral edge. The tank-aged part keeps it fruity, while the barrel-aged part adds body.

Who makes it
Louis Henry Denis Jadot bought the Beaune merchant Lemaire-Fouleux in 1859 and renamed it Louis Jadot. Its cellars are in the Couvent des Jacobins, which was built in 1477 and was once a convent of Saint Dominic.
Jadot aims for the purest expression of each wine's place, with a light hand and restrained use of oak. This wine is made at Jadot's Givry winery.
About the 2024 vintage
The 2024 season in Burgundy was a hard one. The BIVB, Burgundy's wine body, reports a mild February and March that brought an early bud burst, then frosts in April and humid weather through to July, which kept downy mildew (a fungal disease) a constant threat. Flowering was late and uneven, which cut the size of the crop. August was warm and dry, and picking of still-wine grapes began on 12 September.
The BIVB describes the vintage as "scarce, yet flavourful", with lower alcohol than recent years, and says the Chardonnays show almond and white flower character with well-integrated acidity. Bryn Stephens and Matt Wilkin MS of Alliance Wine describe the white wines as pure and zesty, with savoury tension.
When to drink it
The 2024 is ready to drink now, and can be enjoyed through to 2029. Serve it lightly chilled.
