The Argiano Rosso di Montalcino 2024 is a highly regarded, vibrant Tuscan red from one of the oldest and most historic wine estates in Montalcino, Italy. Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes harvested from organically farmed vineyards, the 2024 vintage is energetic and approachable with purity, freshness, and bright character. This bright red pairs cherry and redcurrant fruit with a lift of violet and a faint hint of menthol, finishing with soft, chewy tannins and crisp acidity. It's an easy-drinking introduction to Sangiovese from Montalcino, best enjoyed with roast meats.
In the glass it shows a bright ruby colour with real energy, the aromatics lifted rather than heavy. Give it air by swirling it in the glass and the fruit opens out, gaining a savoury edge alongside the cherry and violet. It feels moderate in weight, with a fine, grainy texture and a clean, persistent finish.
It's an approachable, everyday Sangiovese, the sort you can reach for on a Tuesday as much as a Saturday.
Argiano's own history is documented as far back as 813AD.
What it tastes like

The palate is medium-bodied with soft, fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity that keeps everything fresh. A savoury, dried-herb note comes through on the finish, a reminder of the limestone soils around Montalcino. It's delicious.

Who makes it
Argiano is one of the oldest wine estates in Montalcino, with documented history stretching back to 813AD and a Renaissance villa built in the 1580s for the Pecci family. The Estate sits on the south-western slope of Montalcino, its vineyards planted on ancient calcareous marl soils at around 350 metres above sea level.
Argiano has farmed organically since 2004.
For the 2024 vintage, the Sangiovese grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then aged in French and Slavonian oak casks before further ageing in bottle.
About the vintage
Eric Guido, reviewing the vintage for Vinous, described the 2024 reds as "elegant, energetic," in a year that also brought the biggest expansion of Rosso di Montalcino production in decades. It's the kind of vintage built for wines that drink well on release rather than needing years in the cellar.
