THE WINERY

When we opened The Winery in central Queenstown in May 2005 we were one of the world's first and largest wine tasting experiences. With a focus on bringing the best of New Zealand wine to one location, The Winery's reputation grew and in 2019 we were recognised by TripAdvisor in the World's Top 10 wine experiences People's Choice Awards.

In February 2020 The Winery opened a second store in Arrowtown, taking the experience to the next level with more whisky and gin tastings, our famous cheeseboards with a new tapas menu and a decor designed for the relaxation and comfort of our customers. Alamos Malbec 2025 is a great value wine for everyday drinking. This Malbec comes from Bodega Catena Zapata, the family behind some of Argentina's most highly regarded wines, grown in Mendoza's high-altitude Andes foothills at up to 5,000 feet. It's full of ripe dark fruit and warm spice, with soft, easy tannins, and it delivers real quality for the price.

In the glass it shows a deep ruby colour, with a soft, juicy mouthfeel that's built for easy, no-fuss drinking rather than the cellar.

It's the sort of wine to keep on hand for a weeknight dinner or a casual get-together, delicious with a burger or a pizza and open to whatever else the night brings.

What it tastes like

The nose leads with black cherry and blackberry, lifted by dried herbs and a touch of lavender. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with balanced acidity and soft, easy tannins, finishing on brown spice and a hint of chocolate. It's an easy wine to like.

Who makes it

Alamos was launched in 1993 by Nicolás Catena, whose family has been making wine in Mendoza, through Bodega Catena Zapata, since 1902.

The grapes are grown in the Andes foothills at altitudes of up to 5,000 feet, where intense sunlight and cool nights let the fruit ripen slowly while holding onto its acidity.

The grapes are hand-picked, destemmed and crushed, given a short cold soak, then fermented in upright and conical tanks before ageing in a combination of French and American oak.
