THE WINERY

When we opened The Winery in central Queenstown in May 2005 we were one of the world's first and largest wine tasting experiences. With a focus on bringing the best of New Zealand wine to one location, The Winery's reputation grew and in 2019 we were recognised by TripAdvisor in the World's Top 10 wine experiences People's Choice Awards.

In February 2020 The Winery opened a second store in Arrowtown, taking the experience to the next level with more whisky and gin tastings, our famous cheeseboards with a new tapas menu and a decor designed for the relaxation and comfort of our customers. Bob Campbell MW - Best new label from New Zealand

Andy Anderson has only made two wines under his Takapoto Estate label. The first was a 2012 Pinot Noir made from Bannockburn grapes. It won the trophy for World’s Best Pinot Noir at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London, one of the world’s largest wine shows that reviews over 20,000 wines each year. His second wine, also a pinot noir but this time made from grapes grown in the Gibbston subregion and harvested in 2014 also won World’s Best Pinot Noir at the IWSC. That’s a strong endorsement for Anderson’s skill as a winemaker. (Announced in Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine, February 2019)
