Who makes it

Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of the benchmark names of Monforte d'Alba, best known for its single-vineyard Barolo.

Il Favot comes from Nebbiolo vines in Bussia that are periodically replanted, kept to a maximum of 15 years old, in contrast to the much older vines the estate uses for its Barolo and Barbera.

For the 2022 vintage, the grapes were hand-picked with selection in the vineyard in mid-October, then macerated on skins for just 6 to 8 days in stainless steel at 24 to 26 degrees, a shorter contact than the estate's Barolo or Barbera, chosen to draw out colour and soften the tannins rather than build structure.

About the vintage

The 2022 growing season in Piedmont was hot and dry from the start, with heavy drought and relentless summer heat that pushed vines hard across the region.

Decanter rated it an uneven vintage overall, variable even in the usually reliable Bussia cru, but named Poderi Aldo Conterno among the estates whose wines still delivered through the difficult conditions.
